The Leitir Picnic

Conor and Rachael's wedding celebration

2nd August 2025

What's the Craic?

In a Galaxy far far away...

We got hitched back in 2020 during the height of COVID, a small but mighty party was had, masks, social distancing and all. But big plans were put on hold, kinda forgotten about for a bit, and now reshaped and re-released.

So finally it's time to celebrate properly with all our family and friends!

What's Happening?

It's going to be a festival-style celebration at our farm in Leitir. We've got a massive tipi marquee that'll fit over 100 people, a caterer is going to do some fancy BBQ-style food, a bit of music, bit of craic and a bit of a mad plan to turn a barn into a bar.

Getting Here

Public Transport

Flying

To Carrickfin Airport

This could be a good option for some. It's a 45min flight from Dublin, Terminal 2 (the nice one), fast tracked security line and of course one of the most senic airports in the world. On a clear day it really is spectacular. Flights are usualy €30 each way but if it gets very windy they can be cancelled. August should be fine though.

Bus

Be warned, it's a long slog. €15 each way

Bus Éireann Route 30 gets you to Donegal Town

Route 32 gets you to Letterkenny

Add about 30mins to advertised timetable so each route takes approx 4.5 hours. If you get that far we'll collect and drive you the rest of the way.

Directions

Driving

From Dublin

4.5 hours

We all have our own preference but I think the N3 to Cavan then head toward Enniskillen. If you have a satnav or Google Maps then going by Blacklion/Belco takes 20mins off and is very senic too.

From Galway

3.5 hours

There's only one road really. N17 -> Sligo -> Ballyshannon -> Donegal Town -> Glenties -> Leitir

Accommodation

Camping

We have a spare house with facilities dedicated to the campersite right beside the venue. Take you pick of the garden or field with a view or if you are feeling adventurous then it's just a stones throw to the forest.

Hotels and B&Bs

There are lots of AirBnBs locally but they can be booked up a year in advance, so sorry about the late notice. Bookings do get cancelled so maybe worth checking back ocasionally

FAQ

Rachael has a dress and she wants me in a suit. That said we'd prefer it to be more laid back so ware what you're confortable in. The bar is not inside the marquee, it is a very short walk away but if the weather is bad then a jacket may be needed. Do be prepared for walking on grass, uneven surfaces, and maybe, but hopefully not, a bit of mud.

BYOB. We're going to set up a bar with a keg or 2 and there will be lots of fridges and ice and spare mixers and stuff but do bring your favourate tipple.

We'll have enough covered space to get everyone inside but it may get muddy between spaces. Be prepared for a bit of mud.

Yes, probably. We should have enough parking in and around the yard and forest but it depends on how many bring cars.
